Liberals attack Cregan while rolling out red carpet for charged Ellis

Steven Marshall and the Liberal Party must explain why they are attacking Dan Cregan – including robocalls and hijacking his Facebook page – while rolling out the red carpet to welcome back Fraser Ellis, a man facing 23 charges of deception.

It has emerged people living in Dan Cregan’s seat of Kavel have been receiving robocalls over the past week or so. Some residents have reported to media the robocalls raise questions about Dan Cregan’s honesty and loyalty.

If the Liberals want to do a robocall into the Hills about honesty, they should ask people what they think about Globelink, where the Liberals promised the project before the election and then dumped it afterwards.

Liberal Party State Director Sascha Meldrum has confirmed to ABC the Liberal Party has been undertaking calls in the area but would not confirm the details of the calls.

Caller Frank told ABC Radio this morning the robocalls were about Dan Cregan “telling mistruths”.
“I was quite shocked… I thought the timing was pretty poor and the actual the way that the questions were slanted… not that I know Dan on a close personal level but I certainly know Dan on a personal level just being a hard working member for our seat here and I just thought it was really poor form a couple of days after he’s made his decision.”

It has also emerged the Liberal Party has taken over Dan Cregan’s Facebook page and changed its name to “Liberals Delivering for Kavel”, deleting all reference of Dan Cregan.

The page has since been hit by a flurry of negative comments, lambasting the Liberals for “the most disgraceful childish political stunt I’ve ever heard of” and “as always, the Libs don’t read the room very well”. The Liberals appear to be hiding these comments soon after they appear.

While the Liberal Party is launching an all-out assault on Dan Cregan, it is doing everything it can to indicate it plans to welcome Fraser Ellis back into the Liberal Party. This is despite the fact both major political parties have had a long-standing policy that anyone charged with a crime must sit on the crossbench until the matter is settled in the courts.

The double-standards in the Liberal Party are just breathtaking.

On the one hand, they are launching an all-out attack on Dan Cregan, including robocalls and hijacking his Facebook page, and then on the other, they are rolling out the red carpet for a return for Fraser Ellis, a man facing 23 charges of deception.

This just shows how weak and desperate Steven Marshall is.
