Liberals caught red-handed spreading misinformation

The Liberal Party has been caught red-handed by the independent umpire, the Electoral Commissioner, for spreading inaccurate information and ordered to apologise.

Social media posts were published by a Liberal Party Twitter account and a Liberal Party Facebook account, falsely claiming Labor was opposed to a number of projects, including the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital, a new school in the eastern suburbs and the interconnector to NSW.

This is false, and the Electoral Commissioner agrees.

The Electoral Commissioner has ordered the Liberal Party to withdraw its false claims and publicly apologise.

Late yesterday, the Liberal Party Twitter page @SALibMedia posted:
We acknowledge that these statements are incorrect and withdraw those statements and apologise for any confusion that may have been caused by their publication.

This followed an earlier post from the Facebook page run by the Liberal Party:
We acknowledge that these statements are incorrect and withdraw those statements and apologise for any confusion that may have been caused by their publication.

Earlier this year, the Liberal Party was forced to apologise and correct the record, after the Electoral Commissioner found it letterboxed people’s homes, falsely claiming Labor had a plan to demolish their house.

This is not the Liberal Party’s first offence.

A few months ago, they were forced to withdraw and apologise for falsely claiming Labor had a plan to demolish people’s homes. The Electoral Commission found this was inaccurate and ordered the Liberal Party to withdraw and apologise.
