Another Gawler Train delay latest example of transport mismanagement

Revelations that the restart of Gawler Train services have been delayed again is just the latest example of the Marshall Liberal Government’s mismanagement of the state’s transport system.

The Gawler Train line has now been closed for more than a year and there is still no actual completion date, just another random promise.

The Department of Infrastructure and Transport will appear before Parliament’s Budget and Finance committee today and will be asked to explain the latest delay.

The Opposition raised further delays back in December after being leaked information that services would not resume until April, in response Corey Wingard tweeted “Oh please. You have pulled a date out of your backside.”

It has now been 3 ½ years since the Marshall Liberal Government first announced the project would be completed in late 2020 and all we have seen is delay after delay, cost overruns, legal action and businesses impacted.

Long suffering residents of the northern suburbs have been without a train line for more than a year and still don’t know the exact date of when services will resume.

The Gawler Line completion is fast becoming a debacle on par with the Sydney Light Rail project which was also repeatedly delayed, overbudget and managed by Acciona.

This is sheer incompetence from Steven Marshall and Corey Wingard, who can no longer blame COVID for these repeated delays.

When it comes to infrastructure Steven Marshall’s legacy will be over promising and under delivering. From the right-hand turn, Globelink and the Hove crossing this government has left a trail of failure, disappointment, and broken promises.
